Saturday, 2 March 2019, 8 am – 1 pm – Plant Swap, Free Workshops & Family Morning At YCG

01/01/2019 By

Lissa Evans and Sandra Cathcart

Why a Plant Swap? Plant swaps are a fun way to get rid of any extra plants you may have by swapping them for plants you want.

Following on from the great success of the Sunshine Coast Plant Swap at Steps Nursery in Caloundra, local online gardening group, All Things Garden have teamed up with the Yandina Community Gardens to provide the Yandina Community Gardens Plant Swap and Sale, Saturday, 2nd March from 8am-1pm. Bring your plants and swap them. It is that simple. Established vegetable seedlings, herbs, and garden plants accepted.

“Previous events have been so well received by the local gardening community” stated Sandra Cathcart from All Things Garden. “We were asked to hold an event further north and Yandina Community Gardens kindly offered to host” she explained.

It’s more than just a plant swap though, it’s about raising awareness of the fantastic Community Gardens on the Coast. Yandina Community Gardens is a volunteer-run organisation that promotes environmentally sustainable, affordable and healthy living based on permaculture principles. We are hoping to build an Outdoor Education Centre so that more visitors can learn the benefits of growing their own food and the health benefits associated with eating foods that come from a chemical free and safe environment. As a volunteer organisation, vital funding is required to achieve our goal.

“But don’t’ worry if you don’t have plants to swap” says, Lissa Evans, one of our valued volunteers, “we have arranged a variety of free workshops including how to keep chickens in your own back yard, building and using wicking beds and the best way to utilise worm farms and towers in your garden. Our Nursery will also be open for sales. It’s going to be a great family morning out with kids activities, raffle prizes, food and drinks, and delicious coffee from Mambo Coffee Roasters.”

Come and join us and support the development of our beautiful Gardens.
