Description

Here at Yandina Community Gardens, we are turning waste into a resource to create a waste-tree community in Yandina. Come and learn all about how we process Yandina townships food waste and how you can compost effectively at home!

About:

Food Waste Loop diverts food ‘waste’ from Yandina’s food businesses into compost systems, creating a localised waste management system. We partner with cafes, restaurants, coffee roasteries, and grocery stores to help divert the Yandina town’s waste and turn it into compost. Food Waste Loop has been operating since July 2020 and has collected over 23 tonnes of food waste, which has been turned into magical compost to grow more food!

In this workshop, you will learn all you need to know on starting or improving your home compost. We will introduce to you the four key elements in creating a healthy compost and how to apply them to your home compost. We will then walk you through the different Food Waste Loop systems and how we manage processing large amounts of waste. You will know the ins and outs of our compost systems.

There will be plenty of opportunity for questions! See you there!

Presenter’s Biography:

Food Waste Loop coordinator, Emily Boyd, will host this interactive workshop. Emily has postgraduate qualifications in Sustainable Agriculture, has farming experience here in Australia and the Philippines, has previously assisted farmers and gardeners with their composting systems whilst working at Nutri-Tech Solutions, and truly believes in the power of compost!
