Over the past 100 years, heatwaves have killed more Australians than any other natural hazard. According to BOM, January 2019 was Australia’s hottest ever month on record.
With extreme heat comes the potential for many extreme events – bush fires blazing out of control as the Peregian-Coolum area experienced this year, heat stress, and heat stroke affecting particularly the young and old.

Whilst we can escape to the air conditioner or strip off to cool down, some animals can’t even access shade, or water, and have inefficient means of cooling themselves. This leaves our animals and wildlife at even greater risk of weather-dependent events.
So whilst we lobby government to enact some meaningful global change in the battle against rising temperatures, what can we do to protect our animals?

Presenter’s Biography:
Dr Renee didn’t always know she wanted to be a Vet. She thought she might become a paramedic Chopper Pilot, but somehow ended up at Vet School instead. Then sadly within her first year of graduating Dr Renee found her conventional vet training lacking.
A lightbulb moment occurred when she cured an incurable abscess on an alpaca’s face (that had not responded to multiple rounds of antibiotics or surgery) with homeopathy! This experience inspired her to fall down the rabbit hole that is holistic veterinary medicine. She studied veterinary homeopathy and Chinese herbal medicine, and the importance of real nutrition.
15 years later, Dr Renee is a partner in The Natural Vets, a dedicated integrative vet clinic in Forest Glen on the Sunshine Coast. A clinic that promotes raw diets, minimal vaccine schedules and an holistic approach to pet wellness.
Dr Renee is passionate about educating people on the true causes of disease and the path to health, and living a gentle life in connection with the earth and all of its creatures.
